Introducing The Soy Fairy!

The Soy Fairy was created by and is run by Stef Hunkin who is a therapist at Spiral of Light.  Stef has made candles for many years since she was 8 years old! It is something that she has always been really passionate about and something that she loves to do.  Stef acknowledges that when we are in a really beautiful creative space doing things that we love, our outlook on life changes and we begin to see and perceive life in a different away. It is for this reason that Stef started The Soy Fairy and her intention is to provide soy candles far and wide for people to enjoy the atmosphere and feelings created by burning candles.

Currently, The Soy Fairy candles are sold through Spiral of Light and through our webstore.  The best way for you to discover all of the scents of the candles offered through The Soy Fairy is to come into the clinic and smell away!  If this isn't possilbe, have a read of the descriptions below and see what appeals to you and then send through an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. All about soy candles

Soy candles are made from soy wax which is a derivative of soy that was developed in the early 1990’s.  Soy wax is developed from a renewable resource, unlike paraffin wax which is developed from a petroleum product.  Since paraffin is made from a petroleum product, many harmful chemicals are emitted into the air when it burns often producing a black smoke or soot on your candle jars or surrounding area where the candle has been burnt.  Wicks that contain lead are also often used in paraffin candles which can again, produce harmful chemicals in the air.

Advantages of Soy Candles

  • Environmentally Friendly. Soy candles are environmentally friendly as soy wax is produced from a renewable source – soy beans.  Soy candles are biodegradable and they do not contain pesticides or herbicides.  Soy wax is not made from a petroleum product and therefore does not omit harmful chemicals when burning.  They also produce less soot than many other candles.
  • Longer Burning Time. Soy candles burn up to 50% longer than paraffin candles which makes them more economical.
  • Easy to Clean. Soy candles are easy to clean up if they spill.  Hot soapy water can be used to clean up surfaces and soy wax also washes easily out of clothing or linen.
  • Fabulous Fragrances. Unlike beeswax, soy wax doesn’t have a rich natural fragrance which means that candles can be scented.  Due to the relatively low melting point of soy wax and the slow burning time, fragrances release slowly into the air for a slow build-up of scent, rather than an overwhelming odor.
  • Use Melted Wax as a Moisturiser. There are no 'nasty's' in soy wax and it has a low melting temperature, so you can actually use wax from the melted wax pool around the burning wick as a moisturiser!  So not only do you have the joy of burning a beautiful candle, having a beautiful scent fill the air, you can also moisturise yourself and smell great too!
